  • French President Emmanuel Macron reviews the French honor guard at the naval base during his second day of visit in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates Thursday Nov. 9 2017

He said: "Hezbollah must be armed to fight against the enemy of the Lebanese nation which is Israel".

General Jafari also said that marginalizing the United States in the political and security developments of the region, the speedy annihilation of Takfiri terrorists and the desperation of the USA regional allies in the region can be seen as indications of destroying the U.S. hegemony in the Muslim world. "We faced them and will continue to face them to maintain unity and stability", Hariri said, addressing Lebanon's Supreme Islamic Sharia Council, as quoted by NNA.

He was discussing Iran's role in establishing a lasting ceasefire in war-torn Syria when he reacted to Mr Macron's comments during a television interview. Gulf monarchies have accused the Shi'ite group of also supporting the Houthi group in Yemen and of backing militants in Bahrain. Iran and Hezbollah both denied the claims.

"Jafari reiterated Iran's stance on its ballistic missile work, saying the Islamic Republic's missile program is for defensive purposes and not up for negotiation".

"Iran will not negotiate its defensive program".

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri said on Saturday that he would not accept Iran-backed Hezbollah's positions that "affect our Arab brothers or target the security and stability of their countries", a statement from his press office said, Reuters reports. The statement did not specify which countries he meant.

This week, in separate telephone calls, 39-year-old Mr Macron urged Iran's Hassan Rouhani and Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu to keep Lebanon "disassociated" with regional crisis.

The program was not part of the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers under which Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of some sanctions.

The European leader recently traveled to the region for a meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed, during which time he also made an "impromptu" surprise visit to Saudi Arabia (which may have in fact been planned) for talks with the Kingdom's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, commonly known by his initials MBS.

"Any leniency in dealing with their policies would only encourage them more, so we must stand together".
