Martin O'Neill has emerged as the new favourite to become Everton manager.

The betting markets have reflected this, with the former Aston VIlla and Leicester boss now well ahead in the market concerning the next Toffees manager.

Now Skybet rate O'Neill as 4/7 to take over the top job at Goodison Park, with Watford's Marco Silva second favourite at 5/1.

O'Neill faces an uncertain future in charge of the Republic of Ireland after they failed to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals.

The 65-year-old has verbally agreed a new two-year deal with the FAI to stay in charge of the national side for their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, but the nature of the defeat, as well as the fallout that ensued, have apparently made him less certain of extending his four-year reign.

Ireland's Martin O'Neill Emerges As Strong Favourite For Premier League Job

He has urged the club's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright to appoint a permanent manager as soon as possible.

O'Neill, should he be appointed Everton manager, would bring a wealth of Premier League experience to the role.

Roberto Martinez and the recently sacked Ronald Koeman both took issue with Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy playing with knocks, while the Irish duo questioned Everton's training regime.

There would, however, be major concerns from the Toffees supporters about hiring a man that has been away from club management for nearly five years.
