At least three people were killed and several wounded after a gunman opened fire inside a high school in New Mexico, US on Thursday.

Authorities say the shooter at Aztec High School in Aztec is also dead.

According to another news outlet citing Aztec Police Chief Mike Heal, two people plus the shooter were shot, but did not specify whether the two people shot were students or adults.

Aztec, in San Juan County, is a small town in northwest New Mexico, about three hours from Albuquerque, and Farmington authorities assisted in the response to the shooting.
