Sashi Brown releases statement thanking Browns

  • Report: Browns fire executive VP Sashi Brown

During his tenure overseeing the personnel department, the Browns mustered a horrid 1-27 record.

Winless thus far this season, the Browns own a 1-27 mark under the watch of Brown, who was hired to run the front office on January 3, 2016.

"We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi's commitment and leadership to our organization, but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns", Haslam said in a statement released by the team.

Asked if the Browns are poised to make a big turnaround in 2018, Jackson said the team can certainly "make some headway". That was the only firing Jimmy Haslam administered Thursday, though, as the Browns' owner announced Hue Jackson will remain the team's coach in 2018.

"The plan" to accumulate draft picks for the future came at the expense of passing on quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson.

Haslam said he informed Brown "that we were going in a new direction" and pointed to the 2018 draft, when the Browns will have two first-round picks, as "pivotal for our franchise".

According to the Washington Post , Haley said the United States will take "every precaution" to ensure the safety of its athletes. And certainly, that's a flawless opportunity for all of them to go and do something they've worked so hard for.

Other members of the team's front office are expected to be let go as well. Cleveland now sits at 0-12 entering Week 14 of the season.

With Brown's departure, the franchise will be searching for a general manager for the ninth time since it returned to Cleveland in 1999. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dianni Russini reported the news.

Haslam made no mention of the fate of Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta, the man with the baseball background, who is complicit in the failure of 2016 and 2017.

Brown and Jackson appeared to be at odds over several roster decisions and Haslam figured his best course of action was to end the relationship rather than attempting to fix it. Brown failed because of an inadequacy to judge talent for the draft picks he did have and the talent he allowed to leave through free agency. The team didn't submit the required paperwork to the league in time to complete the deal before the deadline on October 31, and the clumsy misstep may have been the final straw for Brown. McCarron right before this years trade deadline ended and you have to wonder if that may have played a small role in Haslam wanting to move on from Brown now.

The Browns host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
