  • G7 Leaders Set To Clash With Combative Donald Trump Over Tariffs Trade

Quebec City's historic district looked as though business owners were preparing for a mini hurricane to blow through the cobblestone streets on Thursday, as several storefronts were barricaded with plywood in anticipation of anti-G7 protests. "We are here to protest and we are here to denounce the violence of the neoliberal policies of the G7 members". Up till now the protests have been calm. However, police was present to keep vigil on the protestors. But the police presence in the old city was noticeable - squad cars drove through the area and uniformed officers kept watch at different spots across the neighbourhood popular with tourists and locals alike. Paul said police have also made room to detain people if need be in the main police station of Saguenay.

The amount of detention centers that have been initiated in the Quebec City area in prediction of rallies is provoking human rights group to contemplate about objectives of security forces. A spokesman for Canada's Trudeau said that Ottawa's position against such a move had not changed.

The protests, involving anarchists, anti-capitalists and environmentalists, were largely peaceful, but there was some trouble and tension between police. "If it doesn't happen, we come out even better!"

Staged by aid organization Oxfam, masked activists posing as G7 leaders mimicked household tasks in order to highlight women's unpaid labour and to push the G7 countries to improve social services such as childcare in order to relieve the burden placed on them.

Dressed in checkered shirts, Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel cast a fishing line together while Donald Trump set a globe ablaze during a protest staged by Oxfam at Parc de la Francophonie.

Oxfam Quebec's Executive Director, Denise Byrnes, said that persistent droughts in southern countries are particularly affecting women farmers - who have to continue moving to survive. "It's just easier to board up the store".
