India are set to host Afghanistan in one-off Test from June 14 in Bengaluru and wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has described Afghanistan's cricketing journey as a "beautiful" one.

India captain Ajinkya Rahane termed it is a "privilege" to be a part of a historic first Test match against Afghanistan. It's a privilege to be playing in Afghanistan's first Test match. "All their spinners put together wouldn't have played that many matches that Kuldeep Yadav would have played in four-day cricket.", Karthik was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai said: It's a great moment for us as we embark on our Test journey.

"I don't know what the person (Stanikzhai) had said but you have got to understand that we have got a lot of experience, not only in Test match cricket but a lot of domestic cricket, a lot of four-day matches".

"Experience pays, as you saw with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL".

Afghanistan, who have fast established themselves as a force to reckon with in the shorter formats, will become the 12th side to figure in men's Test cricket after Ireland debuted against Pakistan last month.

"The kind of improvement they have shown in white ball cricket has been phenomenal". But I would say our spinners have a lot of experience and I would say experience can't be easily bought. "I am sure their players will also vouch for that", he said.

The wicket-keeper batsman said that Afghanistan's journey should be put into perspective simply because what the players have achieved in an environment of turmoil.

"Oh! it's a lovely journey isn't it".

Karthik has replaced the injured Wriddhiman Saha for India, after missing 87 Tests since he played the last of his 23 Tests against Bangladesh in 2010.

Karthik praised the efforts of Afghanistan players especially given the fact they had practised in a situation of turmoil.

In regards to the Afghan spin sensation Rashid Khan, Nair said "Most of us have played him in the T20 but this is a different ball game". "You have to give them credit". They are trying to beat all the odds with little infrastructure that they have got. "Dhoni is a special cricketer and I respect him", Karthik said here on Tuesday. In two years, they have had household names (like Rashid). "Not only are they competing in shorter formats but are also winning series (Bangladesh)", the 33-year old Tamil Nadu lad commented. Afghanistan could be a template for other countries that nothing is impossible. It is good for the sport as well.

"As a Test team, we can not take anyone for granted because cricket is a amusing game".
