  • Trudeau 'stabbed us in back' on trade, says Trump chief economic adviser

That statement was followed by another of Trump's Tweets in which he further criticised close all Canada and its leadership for profiting from their trade agreement with the US.

- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may have expected a lot to happen during the G-7 summit last weekend, but being condemned to an afterlife in both hell and heaven probably wasn't on the list.

And in Ottawa on Monday, International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne urged lawmakers to speed ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership that might offset losses in United States trade by binding Canada closer to Asia, Australia and Latin America.

The US blamed Canada on Sunday for the disastrous ending to the G7 summit, saying Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "stabbed us in the back", while American allies held Washington responsible.

"It's a little worse within North America - the underlying bargain was that U.S. neighbors would receive special treatment", Alden said in the same press call.

"That's going to cost a lot of money for the people of Canada", Trump said.

United States trade advisor Peter Navarro, speaking on "Fox News Sunday", reinforced that message.

President Donald Trump said Saturday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has a "one-time shot" to show he's serious about a nuclear disarmament deal. He said the Canadian leader must not have realized that Trump had televisions on Air Force One, allowing him to monitor Trudeau's news conference at the end of the G-7 summit.

Chief trade adviser Peter Navarro said there's "a special place in hell" for Trudeau and anyone else who negotiates in "bad faith" with Trump.

"Canadians are polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Mr Trudeau said.

While making no direct criticism of Mr Trump, Mrs May acknowledged that the summit had been "difficult" and told MPs she had expressed her "deep disappointment" at the "unjustified" imposition of tariffs on American imports of European steel and aluminium.

"All Mr. Trudeau was doing, in a rather gentle way, was articulating the position of his government, which would be the position of any Canadian government in these circumstances", he said, adding that the counter-tariffs make sense. Thomas Wright, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, told reporters that for Trump's first 500 days, "these countries generally were bent over backwards not to criticize President Trump". A senior USA administration official said that Trump had been angered by Trudeau's comments. The European Union also attends.

Speaking to Fox News, Kudlow said: "He is very seriously contemplating kind of a shift in the NAFTA negotiations".

Trump has infuriated the European Union, Canada and Mexico by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
