Today we saw Optus offer some compensation to those affected in the form of a Fetch Mini set-top box.

Speaking later to reporters on a conference call, Lew said TV channel SBS would simulcast the next six World Cup matches through Wednesday morning while Optus worked to resolve the streaming problem. Tonight, Optus CEO, Allen Lew fronted the media to answer questions related to the ongoing streaming issues.

"As I say, from the conversation I've had with Optus, they sound very confident that it's down to a very small number of users".

Australia's prime minister intervened on behalf of angry football fans on Monday (Jun 18) after a series of technical glitches marred viewing of the 2018 World Cup from Russian Federation for the third day.

"For those users now experiencing technical difficulties on Optus Sport, please enter your details into the 2018 FIFA World Cup app to watch the Costa Rica-Serbia game while our tech teams work to fix the problem", Optus Sport tweeted.

Optus' broadcasting agreement is with Federation Internationale de Football Association not FFA, but FFA is receiving regular updates from both Optus and SBS to see whether a solution can be found.

On another disastrous night for the Telco giant, supporters have been unable to watch matches at the FIFA World Cup as system crashes and playback errors plague the Optus digital stream.

"He obviously acknowledges they've had some real problems with streaming from the Optus platform". There were issues on the opening night of the tournament too.

"We apologise to those customers affected and reassure them our team is working around the clock to ensure that we are delivering an excellent broadcast service to all Optus Sport viewers", the spokesperson said.

Mr Lew refused to be drawn on any guarantees about how Optus would deal with demand as the interest in the cup intensifies, particularly if Australia makes it out of the group stages and into the Round of 16, but he indicated that Optus would make all attempts to do the best it could.
