Rupert Stadler, qui dirige Audi depuis 2007, a été critiqué pour sa gestion du scandale qui a éclaté en septembre 2015 quand Volkswagen a reconnu avoir faussé les tests des émissions polluantes de ses moteurs diesel aux Etats-Unis. Sans attendre, le conseil de surveillance de Volkswagen a décidé lundi de suspendre Rupert Stadler, le patron incriminé de sa filiale Audi, pour le remplacer par le Néerlandais Bram Schot, selon l'agence allemande DPA. Le conseil de surveillance d'Audi doit encore entériner la décision de la maison mère d'ici la fin de la journée.

"Nous confirmons que M. Stadler a été arrêté ce matin", a déclaré un porte-parole de Volkswagen, ajoutant que Stadler bénéficiait de la présomption d'innocence.

Il a finalement été arrêté et écroué en raison d'un "risque de dissimulation de preuves", selon le parquet. Comme Volkswagen et plusieurs autres constructeurs, Audi aurait fait appel à des logiciels truqueurs pour falsifier des tests d'émissions de gaz polluant. Mais apparemment les ennuis ne sont pas terminés pour le géant de l'automobile allemand. À l'origine du soupçon, la KBA (l'office fédéral allemand pour la circulation des véhicules à moteurs) a ordonné le rappel de quelques 60 000 véhicules au début du mois de juin.

L'ancien PDG de VW, Martin Winterkorn, et son successeur Martin Müller, mais aussi l'actuel chef du conseil de surveillance du groupe, Hans Dieter Pötsch, et l'actuel président de VW Herbert Diess, sont visés par des investigations. A la Bourse de Francfort, l'action de Volkswagen dévissait de 2,57% à 156,88 euros, dans un marché en baisse de 1,38%.
