Trump orders USA military to form ‘Space Force’

  • Trump orders USA military to form ‘Space Force’

In addition to calling for the Space Force, Trump signed Space Policy Directive - 3 on Monday, part of his administration's push to lead in the space space.

According to the Associated Press, O'Keefe said some people may argue that a space force would "compromise the sanctity of considering space to be off limits from warfare".

The Defense Department's new National Defense Strategy, released earlier this year, outlined a new national security doctrine for the USA, shifting focus away from recent counterterrorism operations that have defined America's wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and elsewhere for the last several decades, to threats posed by near-peer competitors such as Russian Federation and China. "We're going to be the leader by far".

Trump's final words in the introductory speech addressed the space industry representatives and others in the room who are making spaceflight possible.

The idea is not universally supported by members of the Trump administration.

While Trump did not mention weapons, the planned space force would be a branch of the military, but the USA is a signatory to the Outer Space Treaty, which bars the stationing of weapons of mass destruction in space and only allows for the use of the moon and other celestial objects for peaceful purposes. But the treaty has no enforcement mechanism (indeed, the Air Force's unmanned space plane, the X-37B, has completed several clandestine missions).

"Working with Congress, this will be a deliberate process with a great deal of input from multiple stakeholders", White added. Congressional action will likely be needed to create the appointments and appropriations necessary to bring a new branch of the military into existence. But some, including two Republican members of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee, backed the initiative. It wasn't immediately clear whether Mr. Trump favors a similar approach for a dedicated space force.

The interview came after England suffered another loss to South Africa going down 23-12 in Bloemfontein and losing the series. Unfortunately it has gone on a bit longer, but we'll get out of it".

Trump claimed that the plan will ensure that America, which plans a return to the moon and a mission to Mars, stays ahead of China and Russian Federation in any new space race.

President George W. Bush in 2004 said humans would return to the moon by 2020. "We will establish a long-term presence, expand our economy, and build the foundation for the eventual mission to Mars-which is actually going to happen very quickly".

One woman called a spade a spade.

The White House has noted that the commercialization of space is demanding new measures while "space becomes increasingly contested", in order to ensure that the U.S. Department of Defense be able to secure Washington's interests.

But private industry will have a role in that, too.

NASA is developing concepts for an orbital "gateway" space station circling the moon that would serve as a base of operations, a technology testbed and a jumping off point for future flights into deep space. "And, you know, I've always said that rich guys seem to like rockets". The president mentioned the idea in May during a ceremony at the White House honoring the Army Black Knights college football team.

In a few moments, I will sign a new directive to federal departments and agencies.
