  • Battle Between Elon Musk And Former Tesla Employee Turns Ugly

Last week, Tesla announced it would lay off 9 percent of its workforce in an effort to keep its doors open as it tries to ramp up production of its critical Model 3 electric vehicle. Personnel from the facilities that are set to be closed are being transferred to other sites as well.

Tesla declined to comment on which sites it planned to shut down, how many employees would lose their jobs or what percentage of the solar workforce they represent.

"Tesla stores have some of the highest foot traffic of any retail space in the country", the company said. But Tripp said he tampered with no systems and shared information with the media only after seeing things that alarmed him within the company, including what he says were dangerously punctured batteries used in Teslas latest Model 3 sedans.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been quieter than usual on Twitter for the past day - maybe because he's too busy emailing a former employee he called out for "sabotage" and proceeded to sue for stealing trade secrets and data about the electric auto company. Before the merger, Musk had served as chairman of SolarCity's board of directors.

The facilities that will be closed are reportedly located in California, Texas, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Arizona.

On Thursday, Tripp told Ars that he wanted to reveal internal waste and safety flaws in Tesla batteries that he claimed he observed while working as a technician at the company's Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada. He alleges he was alarmed the company was installing what he called "dangerously punctured batteries" in its Model 3s, and told the Post has documents to support his claims. The company faces investor pressure to turn a profit without having to tap Wall Street for additional capital. SolarCity employed about 15,000 people at the end of 2015 but has since cut thousands of workers.

We won't even mention the Model S on Autopilot that rear-ended a parked firetruck last month.

In 2016, Tesla unsuccessfully tried to push for a bill dubbed the "Tesla Tourism" bill that would have been easier for out-of-state buyers to come pick up their cars at the factory in California. This resulted in about half of all of Tesla Solar's total sales. Per internal estimates reviewed by Business Insider, Tesla has spent over R2 billion on scrap material so far this year. What is a bit sketchy is the Tesla CEO buying a family business, then leaning on it to downsize during critical times. An ongoing investigation is still uncovering the full extent of the damages, but preliminary information reported in the filing states that Tesla believes the software had scraped gigabytes of data. But we didn't learn that until Tesla filed a lawsuit against him on Wednesday. The lawsuit alleged Tesla's board of directors breached its duties to shareholders by approving the merger.

Such tactics are standard practice across most of the competitive residential solar industry.
