An orphaned bear cub that suffered severe burns to her paws while trapped in one of the half a dozen significant wildfires that are scorching the U.S. state of Colorado is being nursed back to health. "But she's responding very well to treatment and by winter we believe we'll be able to return her to the wild".
Another wildfire in the southern part of the state destroyed an unknown number of structures and forced residents of 350 homes to evacuate, authorities said.
Firefighters spotted her wandering alone in a burned-over area north of Durango last week.

The cub is 4 or 5 months old and weighed just 10 pounds when she was rescued.

The cub, who has been isolated from other bears at the facility for the time being, has been spending most of her time lying down and staying off her feet. She's being treated with salve, bandages, antibiotics and pain medication, and is eating solid food and a liquid milk replacement.
After the feet are healed, it will be placed in an enclosure with the four other cubs now at the facility.
