Police in the United Kingdom have warned they can not guarantee the safety of the public after the death of a woman who came into contact with the Novichok nerve agent near Salisbury in southern England. "Police and security officials are working urgently to establish the facts of this incident, which is now being investigated as a murder". "Dawn leaves behind her family, including three children, and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this extremely hard time", said Neil Basu, assistant commissioner and head of UK Counter Terrorism policing.

Police say that Rowley remains critically ill.

For its part, Russian government officials have denied all involvement, while at least some British officials have urged caution in attributing blame. Since this is still early in the investigation, police have not released many details about how and where the two latest victims were poisoned.

Dawn Sturgess, 44, died on Sunday evening in hospital.

Peskov said that linking Russian Federation to the poisoning would be "absurd".

He said no one else in the area has shown any sign of Novichok poisoning.

Yulia Skripal, who was poisoned in Salisbury along with her father, Russian spy Sergei Skripal, speaks to media representatives in London, on May 23, 2018.

Per CNN, authorities now believe that Sturgess and Rowley came into contact with a contaminated item via their hands, but now lack the ability to determine whether the poison is from the same batch that the Skripals ingested.

The head of Britain's counter-terror police also said he could not rule out further contaminations.

He said: 'The simple reality is that Russian Federation has committed an attack on British soil which has seen the death of a British citizen.

Basu said the two "must have got a high dose" and police were seeking a "container" they are believed to have handled.

Professor Paul Cosford of Public Health England has said, however, that "As a precaution we still advise the public not to pick up any odd items such as needles, syringes or unusual containers".

The police's "working hypothesis" is that the Amesbury poisoning and the Salisbury incident are linked, the home secretary said, but he called for the police to be given "time and space" to work. Police said there is no evidence that either Sturgess or Rowley visited any of the sites where the Skripals may have been poisoned.

A red Transit van travelled in by Mr Rowley and three others on the day he fell ill on 30 June was this weekend removed with the assistance of military personnel wearing protective clothing and taken to the Porton Down research laboratory for testing.

This has been identified as the same type of nerve agent that contaminated both Yulia and Sergei Skripal.
