And retired and active race auto drivers want more dirty action.

Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner and NASCAR legend Tony Stewart says pressure should be put on the series to eventually stage a Cup race at the Eldora Speedway dirt track.

Full-time Cup driver Ryan Newman will drive in Thursday's Eldora dirt track race, which has become an increasingly popular event since Stewart bought the circuit in 2004.

The Eldora Dirt Derby for the Camping World Truck Series - a perennial favorite stop on the NASCAR calendar - will run at Stewart's OH track for the sixth straight year Wednesday night. As such, Stewart, speaking Tuesday during a "Tradin' Paint" appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, said the proven ability of trucks running on dirt, and drivers with limited dirt experience getting around the track mean an Xfinity or Cup vehicle can do the same. If a truck can get around here, a Cup or Xfinity auto can do it too.

Stewart believes Eldora's success in hosting NASCAR races means it should now be considered for the second-tier Xfinity series as a trial run for a Cup race down the line.

"Maybe one of these days we'll get an Xfinity or a Cup race here because we've proven you can run the vehicles here, and we've proven that the truck drivers that have never been on dirt before can sit there and get around this track really well", Stewart (pictured above presenting the Truck race winner's trophy to Darrell Wallace back in 2014) said.

"Fans, if you're out there, think about starting to put some pressure on NASCAR", said Stewart. "But maybe the dream will start now that maybe we can get an Xfinity race here in the future, too".

Fans entering the infield at Eldora Speedway over the past six years for the Dirt Derby NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race might have noticed that the "Love Tunnel" leading to the pit.

Dale Jr. joined Stewart, pushing for NASCAR to add Eldora Speedway to at least the XFINITY Series schedule.

Keselowski has been negative towards tyre supplier Goodyear in the past, notably criticising the make when he perceived it to have ignored his advice for a new compound during testing at MI.

It's definitely unique as the dirt race in NASCAR national touring, but it's also a technical showcase that has managed to strip engineering prowess from the keys to success, remarkable in an era of aerodynamic grip at the expense of mechanical grip.
