Sparano died Sunday, according to the team.

The Minnesota Vikings will start training camp in Eagan this week with heavy hearts.

In 2013, Sparano was hired by the Raiders as offensive line coach and assistant head coach under Dennis Allen. He served as interim head coach in Oakland in 2014.

Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach Tony Sparano died on Sunday at the age of 56, the team announced. He went 11-5 and won the AFC East in his first season with the Dolphins. It's one of two playoff berths for the franchise since 2002.

That was Sparano's lone winning season, and he was sacked in 2011 after going 29-32 in Miami. He was popular with his players, but a dismal home record, declining attendance and a falling-out with general manager Jeff Ireland accelerated his firing by owner Stephen Ross.

He was hired to run the Raiders offensive line in 2013, and was promoted to interim head coach after Dennis Allen was sacked four games into the 2014 campaign.

Grandfather arrested after girl, 2, accidentally shot by boy, 4, in California
According to several USA media reports, the boy allegedly involved in the shooting was visibly distraught as he was taken away from the home.

Born in West Haven, Conn., on October 7, 1961, Sparano began his National Football League coaching career in 1999 as a quality control assistant with the Browns.

"We both showed up at the same time", Shurmur said in a statement. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather, and a great friend to me. Tony's presence within the Vikings organization will be deeply missed. "He would check on my family every HC and QB meeting we would have".

Several players took to social media on Sunday to offer their condolences to Sparano's family and express their sadness over his death.

"Heart broken and lost for words!"

Sparano was one of six assistants on Parcells' Cowboys coaching staff who became future head coaches: Sparano, Mike Zimmer, Sean Payton, Todd Haley, Anthony Lynn, and Todd Bowles. After overseeing the NFL's most injury-riddled O-line in his first year, Sparano coached a unit with three new starters not only to respectability but made a formidable unit in 2017, when it helped Minnesota finish 11th in total offense and 10th in scoring, after 28th and 23rd, respectively, the year prior.

Pennington led an offense historically light on turnovers that got spiced up when Sparano OK'd usage of the "Wildcat" formation, with running back Ronnie Brown taking the snap. Thank you for caring about the us as individuals and not just athletes.
