Eyewitnesses said that Purinton purportedly yelled, "Get out of my country", before fatally shooting Kuchibhotla. There he fired at least eight shots at Kuchibhotla and Madasani. Purinton injured another man, Ian Grillot, who tried to intervene.

Adam Purinton, 52, killed Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, and wounded Alok Madasani at a bar in the city of Olathe, Kansas, in February past year.

None of his victims appeared in court August 7, The Kansas City Star reported.

'Srinu and I came to the United States of America full of dreams and aspirations.

"If you could have kept your anger inside and spoke to my husband softly, Srinu would have been more than happy to share his background and help you understand that not every brown skinned person is suspicious or evil, but kind, smart and contributing to America", she said in Tuesday's statement.

"What I do request is you use the time that is being given to you to educate yourself and inform others who are still out in the open and stop them from killing innocent people as you did - choosing violence over kindness".

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions also released a statement, calling Purinton's crimes "detestable".

"The defendant acted with clear premeditation in murdering one man, and attempting to murder a second man, simply due to their race, religion, and national origin", according to the statement.

"A promising young life has been tragically cut short, and other lives have been filled with suffering", he said. "Securing this sentence is important not only to the victims and their loved ones, but also to our justice system and our nation as a whole".

Purinton was arrested several hours later in Clinton, Mo., where he had told a bartender he was running from the police because he killed "two Iranians".

The 53-year-old Purinton is already serving a life sentence in Kansas for premeditated first-degree murder.

Though none of his victims appeared in court Tuesday, prosecutors read a statement that Sunayana Dumala, Kuchibhotla's widow, had addressed to Purinton.

"Today's sentencing in the murder of my husband will not bring back my Srinu, but it sends a strong message that hate is never acceptable", Dumala said at the time.

The sentence was handed down on the wife's 34th birthday, and she wrote in the statement that is was "extremely painful for me to witness or face the shooter in person".

Sessions said in the statement that while the "irreparable harm" that Purinton has done can not be undone, "some measure of justice for the victims' families has been achieved". Always kind, caring, and respectful to others. "I hope in the years that you must spend in the jail you will one day realize the magnitude of your mistake and work towards your penance".

On February 22, 2017, Purinton drove to Austins Bar & Grill and sat by himself at a table on the enclosed front patio.
