When actress Margot Kidder passed back in May, her manager, Camilla Fluxman Pines, said she died peacefully in her sleep.

In a statement provided to The Associated Press Wednesday, Coroner Richard Wood said Kidder's death was "a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose".

The daughter of late Superman star Margot Kidder has urged people experiencing mental health difficulties to seek help after a coroner's office in the USA released its ruling on her mother's death. The coroner didn't reveal precisely what drugs she had taken.

The actress found fame starring alongside Christopher Reeve in the Superman films of the 1970s and 1980s.

The actress had publicly struggled with mental-health issues. Her film "Robber's Roost" was in pre-production, and the final film she worked on was 2017's "The Neighborhood". Off-screen she was one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring woman I've ever known.

She suffered a breakdown in the 1990s and disappeared for four days in a highly publicised episode and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
