But Sony is separately developing a bevy of other Marvel Comics adaptations that don't have the involvement of Marvel Studios, and thus aren't actually connected to the MCU.

Though Sony Pictures is reportedly cancelling plans for Silver & Black, the Black Cat and Silver Sable spinoff with director Gina Prince-Bythewood, there is an opportunity for both characters to receive solo films in the future, with Black Cat taking priority.

If theVenom movie lives up to expectations, and presently it is tracking well, the movie will quickly be followed by sequels and standalone films featuring heroes and villains from the Spider-Man universe, of which Sony has the rights to of roughly 900 of the Marvel characters.

This is one of those no-brainer statements, but the actuality is more complex. Marvel Studios is all about quality control, and if it can oversee the creative decisions made on a movie like Homecoming, it's fine including that as part of the MCU.

The Spider-Man-centric films has an unofficial name internally at the studio, with Panitch overseeing what they're calling Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters (or, the SUMC).

He doubled down on that sentiment Wednesday saying that before USA sanctions "nobody supported Iran ". His trip came on the same day that the US restored sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Whether that's likely to happen is unknown.

Spider-Man: Far From Home gets released July 5, 2019. Instead, Sony has plans to split the pair up and give each of them their own films and that the Black Cat will most likely be the first of the two.

But Spider-Man isn't the only character they're hoping to include. Variety notes that Sony's model differs from that of Marvel or DC in that it's more producer-driven.

With the the highly anticipated comic book film, Venom, set to release fairly soon, Sony is gearing up for their own Sony's Marvel Universe. Sony has also had discussions on other Spider-Man characters such as Silk and Nightwatch, with Variety reporting that the Spidey adjacent superhero Jackpot is also in the works for her own movie.

No one can predict what the future holds, but for now it's clear that Sony is basically DTF with Marvel Studios when and if Marvel opts to partner up on Spider-Man comics characters other than Peter Parker.
