  • Dominion City Brewing takes on buck-a-beer in unique way

In response to yesterday's announcement by the Government of Ontario that the minimum retail price for beer in the province will be dropping to $1 per bottle or can, Dominion City Brewing has announced plans to release a new beer that puts a unique and charitable spin on the concept of "buck-a-beer".

The Progressive Conservative plan will lower the minimum price of a bottle or can of beer to $1 from $1.25 starting August 27 - a few days before the Labour Day weekend. This action will give the brewers promotional advantages in the LCBO, such as limited time discounts, and stands in stores, which Ford called "priceless".

"As an independently-owned brewery, we can tell you unequivocally that it is impossible to sell a beer for a dollar without compromising quality", says Dominion City.

Premier Doug Ford says participating businesses will be offered prime spots in Liquor Control Board of Ontario stores or advertising in the store magazine's inserts, among other possible rewards.

The PC's are not lowering the tax on beer; instead, they are asking brewers to lower their prices to as low as a buck.
