Trump called Manigault Newman "wonderful", "a very nice person" and a "very, very fine person" when she joined him on the campaign trail in 2016.

President Donald Trump called former White House adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman a "lowlife" Saturday.

Manigault Newman, who came to fame on Trump's reality show "The Apprentice" years ago before going to work in his administration, is set to release her expose, "Unhinged", on August 14.

"Lowlife, she's a lowlife", Trump responded before exiting a platform where he had been asking the bikers for their thoughts on the media.

But when pressed about her version in the book, Manigault Newman told to NPR: "I heard the tape".

Manigault Newman claims in her upcoming book, "Unhinged: An Insider Account of the Trump White House", that Trump pitched the idea of taking his presidential oath on a copy of "The Art of the Deal", according to an excerpt obtained by Slate Magazine on Saturday.

Elsewhere in her book, she claims the president suffers from "mental decline" and alleges she once saw Trump chew up a piece of paper after a meeting with his then-lawyer Michael Cohen. It's the greatest business book of all time. Just think how many copies I'd sell - maybe a commemorative inauguration copy!' She says that Trump used racial slurs like the "N-word" during tapings of his reality show The Apprentice and that there are tapes of him saying it.

Manigault Newman worked in the White House for almost a year as an assistant to the president and the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison.

"On this phone conversation, I was told exactly what Donald Trump said - yes, the N-word and others in a classic Trump-goes-nuclear rant - and when he'd said them".

The book also claims that Mr Trump behaves "like a dog off the leash" at events he attends without his wife, Melania.
