  • It's Official The Date for Judge Kavanaugh's Supreme Court Hearing Has Been Set

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has officially released the dates for Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing to become the next justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. He's met with dozens of senators who have nothing but positive things to say. "It's time for the American people to hear directly from Judge Kavanaugh at his public hearing", Grassley said in his statement announcing the hearing.

"We applaud Senator Chuck Grassley for swiftly moving along Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings so the Supreme Court seat vacated by Anthony Kennedy can be filled quickly". And just because it's an election year, it does not mean that Judge Kavanaugh can not - or should not - be confirmed. Given the slim 51-49 majority that Republicans have in the chamber and the fact that Arizona GOP Sen. Democrats have complained Republicans are rushing the process for the lifetime appointment without proper vetting of Kavanaugh's record. That said, Kavanaugh supporters are targeting several Democratic senators up for re-election this year from states Trump won in 2016 as possible "yes" votes.

"I am looking forward to the hearings and the final confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court", Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said.

If the Republicans stick together, they can get Kavanaugh confirmed, but that could be a challenge, given the divisive issues swirling around the conservative nominee, including abortion, gay rights, healthcare and tariffs. "He'll get confirmed. It won't be a landslide, but he'll get confirmed".

Grassley's team of counsels and other aides have reviewed 4,800 pages of legal opinions that Kavanaugh wrote, more than 17,000 pages related to Kavanaugh's committee questionnaire, and more than 184,000 pages of the nominee's documents from his tenure working in the George W. Bush White House and for independent counsel Kenneth Starr. Kavanaugh will go under questioning September 5.

White House spokesman Raj Shah said Kavanaugh is looking forward to speaking with Congress.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, released a statement on Friday calling Kavanaugh "exceptionally well-qualified" and "a fair arbiter of the law".
