"Will the rules change in Serena's matches?".

The Serena Williams US Open controversy rages on.

Naomi Osaka's U.S. Open win was overshadowed by Serena Williams' dispute with the umpire, but the budding Japanese tennis star did enough to sign a major endorsement deal, with more likely on the way.

Speaking on Wednesday, Osaka said she was unsure just why the crowd were booing at the time, but Williams had some kind words for the champion.

Another person identified as an "senior figure" told the Guardian that umpires felt Ramos was "hung out to dry" after the incident and that "no one is standing up for officials" amid reports that the incident is fueling talks of a boycott.

"For me, I'm just me", said Osaka, when asked whether she represented a "new Japan".

Williams went on to allege that male players were treated more favourably than female players.

"I'm so proud of her", said Hiromi Shibata, a 32-year-old Tokyo resident and tennis fan.

Martina Navratilova, an 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, also took a swipe at Williams' behaviour, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

While tennis legend Billy Jean King backed Williams" accusation insisting there was a "double standard', many have condemned the 23-time Grand Slam victor for losing her temper.

Strycova stands as one of the first players on the circuit to publicly criticise Williams for her behaviour at flushing meadows, and the Czech also threw her support behind Ramos who she believes acted out of necessity.

"I'm fine, given the circumstances", he told the publication.

Osaka, the 20-year-old who beat Williams in straight sets in the NY final, has signed on as a brand ambassador for Nissan, a move that shows both her global appeal to fans and her value to advertisers.

"I think the umpire did what was within his rights", he told BBC Sport ahead of Britain's Davis Cup tie with Uzbekistan in Glasgow.

On the other side of the net, though, the 20-year-old Osaka kept her cool in her first Grand Slam final to win 6-2 6-4.

Ramos has since spoken out about the backlash via Portugal's Tribuna Expresso. In Ramos' defense, Adams said he was "following the code" but noted he could have issued a soft warning for coaching instead of a penalty off the bat.

"But if you were talking about my tennis, I think my tennis is not very Japanese".
