The White House has also sought to cast doubt about Ford's allegation by noting that the FBI has repeatedly investigated Kavanaugh since the 1990s for highly sensitive positions he has held, including in the office of independent counsel Ken Starr, at the White House and his current post on the federal appeals court in Washington.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted Judiciary Committee Democrats' handling of a formerly anonymous allegation of misconduct against Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh flatly denied the accusation and was, according to the White House, ready to testify "tomorrow" in his defence.
Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana told reporters the public session would be a "full opportunity" for both to be heard.
Now, the decision by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa to hold a public hearing about the accusations next Monday will nearly certainly determine whether Kavanaugh gets his seat on the court, something that would shift the court further to the right. In the letter, Ford said she had received medical treatment after the assault, adding that "it is upsetting to discuss sexual assault and its repercussions, yet I felt guilty and compelled as a citizens about the idea of not saying anything".
While some Republican senators, such as Alaska's Lisa Murkowski, South Carolina's Lindsey Graham and Flake, are concerned with process, one source said that doesn't necessarily mean a long delay - and the concern is that a long delay is what Democrats are pushing for.
"I'd like everybody to be very happy", he added.
Ford says a drunken Kavanaugh forced himself on her, tried to remove her clothing and put his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream. "I believe this is a copy for full transparency", Trump Jr.

More days of flooding ahead for Carolinas, surrounding states
Officials have reported flooding caused by Tropical Storm Florence in Union County, located between Charlotte and Anson County. Eric Tryggeseth, 59, found his home in Leland, North Carolina, without power on Monday and a tree laying in his front yard.
"I am willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation, from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity", Kavanaugh said.
Ford said Kavanaugh and a friend - both "stumbling drunk", she says - corralled her in a bedroom when she was around 15 and Kavanaugh was around 17. "So you would have thought, certainly, that she would have brought it up at the meeting, not wait until everything is finished and then have to start a process all over again".
A potential "no" vote from Flake would complicate the judge's prospects because Republicans control the committee by just 11-10.
Charles Grassley, the Republican Iowa senator who chairs the panel, released a statement saying Ford's allegations would be considered.
In light of Ford coming forward, there have been questions about the upcoming vote for Kavanaugh's nomination.
Grassley said that so far, the Judiciary committee's top Democrat, Dianne Feinstein of California, has refused to help schedule telephone interviews. Ford has also said she would be willing to testify.
"I have never done anything like what the accuser describes - to her or to anyone", he said in a statement. Both were students at private Montgomery County high schools at the time. But since the Intercept revealed the allegation - which quickly snowballed into absurd theater in the days following - she said she felt she needed to come forward. Instead, Kavanaugh and his accuser are set to testify at a public hearing next Monday - under oath.
Republican Bob Corker also said delaying the vote "would be best for all involved".
