Our choice to go with Reliance: Dassault clarifies on Rafale deal

  • The deal to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets from France was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015

Congress president Rahul Gandhi's recent speeches testify that he is anything but consistent.

It added, "Unnecessary controversies are being created following reports regarding a statement purportedly made by former French President Hollande".

"The prime minister has betrayed India". "We are absolutely convinced that the Prime Minister is corrupt", he said.

Tagging a news report where the former Chief of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited T.S. Raju claimed that the Bengaluru-based public sector undertaking could have built Rafale fighters in India if the Modi government had concluded the deal that the previous government had negotiated, Mr. Gandhi took to twitter to target Ms. Sitharaman and play on the words Raksha Mantri (Defence Minister). Modi Ji you dishonoured the blood of our martyred soldiers. The Congress has also alleged that the government was benefitting Reliance Defence through the deal as the company has set up a joint venture with Dassault Aviation to execute the offset obligation for the deal.

The Indian leader's role came under further scrutiny this week when former French President Francois Hollande admitted that Paris didn't have a say in who India proposed as the service company. The government has been maintaining it did not have any role in selection of the offset partner by Dassault.

Reacting to Hollande's remarks, a defence ministry spokesman said, "It is reiterated that neither the government nor the French government had any say in the commercial decision". Escalation of a mere 1,100 crore.

Vitality uses premium discounts and gift cards to encourage users to keep up healthy habits. On the surface at least, it looks like a win-win scenario.

"This is Dassault Aviation's choice, as (Dassault) CEO Eric Trappier explained in an interview published in MINT newspaper on April 17", the company, which also makes Falcon business planes, said in a statement. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said all allegations in the Rafale deal are baseless.

His reported statement contradicts Indian government's claim that the agreement between Dassault and Reliance was a commercial pact between two private parties and the government had nothing to do with it. On taking office, the Modi government cancelled the negotiations and chose to directly purchase 36 jets made in France.

"The PM and Anil Ambani jointly carried out a One Hundred & Thirty Thousand Crore, SURGICAL STRIKE on the Indian Defence forces. I am sure the Euro equivalent would not be a problem to calculate", Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari tweeted.

According to French website Mediapart, the ex-French President said that his government "did not have a say" in choosing Anil Ambani's company for the Rafale deal with India.

"The PM personally negotiated & changed the #Rafale deal behind closed doors".

For that, the French firm picked Reliance and not Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the state-run giant that has been producing planes for decades, a lot of them Russian under license.
