The hospital said two patients were in critical condition, one had serious injuries, and the others were listed as either stable or in fair condition.

All four major hospitals in Ottawa are experiencing power outages and are now running on generators.

Officials warned people not to re-enter their homes until they had been deemed safe.

Kimbell says a line of thunderstorms running from west of Ottawa and into Gatineau are expected to continue for several hours.

Charles Bordeleau, chief of the Ottawa police thanked the affected people in Ottawa because "it was inspiring to see the community come together when people are in need".

About 11,000 residents in the area were without power Friday because of the storm. Bordeleau also mentioned that 300 intersections didn't have working stop lights so drivers should use caution.

Environment Canada suggested that people in these areas take shelter.

Ottawa emergency services official Anthony Di Monte told local media around 30 people were injured, five seriously.

"Some of the buildings in Dunrobin, Ont. have completely been obliterated, quite candidly", he said.
