  • Bayern's James Rodriguez celebrates with his teammates after scoring

USA midfielder Weston McKennie had to be carried off the field Saturday after taking a kick to his left leg in the second half of Schalke's 2-0 loss to German champions Bayern Munich. The Texan midfielder was making his fifth start of the season, and second in three days after taking to the UEFA Champions League stage for the first time, chiming in with a debut assist in the midweek draw with Porto.

Apart from a brief spell in the first half, Bayern were utterly dominant and would have been more convincing winners but for some poor finishing from Rodriguez.

The loss continued Schalke's dismal start to the season, last season's runners-up slumping to a fourth straight defeat as their powderpuff attack reduced visiting keeper Manuel Neuer to the role of spectator.

Joshua Kimmich centred for the Colombian to leather home for his second Bundesliga goal of the season.

U.S. open to talks with Iran: envoy
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last month formed an organization dedicated to coordinating and implementing USA policy toward Iran.

Bayern dominated the game in Gelsenkirchen.

They should have extended their lead in the 50th minute when Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery combined down the left to create a glorious chance for Rodriguez, who somehow missed an open goal from close range.

David Alaba hit the bar before Robert Lewandowski made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Rodriguez was fouled.
