  • Trump Mocks Christine Blasey Ford's Testimony During MAGA Rally

The two other Republican female senators say victims should be heard, but they want Kavanaugh confirmed.

So I am filing cloture on Judge Kavanaugh's nomination this evening so the process can move forward, as I indicated earlier this week. This past week, old acquaintances came forward to dispute his testimony to Congress and Democrats accused the judge of lying under oath. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who forced the committee's hand over the investigation, spoke with Today on Wednesday morning where he called the remarks "kind of appalling".

In a statement on Wednesday night, after Mr. McConnell set the vote in motion, Dr. Ford's counsel wrote: "An FBI supplemental background investigation that did not include an interview of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford nor the witnesses who corroborate her testimony can not be called an investigation". Senators will then likely vote on Saturday to confirm Kavanaugh to the court. He denies the allegations.

But Flake also said that the President's attack would not influence his vote.

But, he said in a press release, "If his nomination were to fall short, I would encourage President Trump to re-nominate Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said the Senate must vote on confirming Mr Kavanaugh this week.

Kavanaugh has denied the accusations by Ford, by Deborah Ramirez, who says he exposed himself to her during a college party, and by Julie Swetnick, who has alleged she was victimized at a party attended by Kavanaugh and his friends. It remains to be seen what kind of light the Federal Bureau of Investigation can shed the claims against Kavanaugh, but one thing is already clear: Many Senate Democrats won't be satisfied with the narrow scope of the probe.

She went on to accuse the Democrats of launching a "full scale assault on" Mr Kavanaugh's integrity, calling it "a co-ordinated smear campaign".

On Tuesday, Mr Flake said he was "very troubled" by the tenor of Judge Kavanaugh's "partisan" testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

"I don't know. I don't know", the President continued.

Mr. Trump drew laughs on Tuesday with his rendition of how Dr. Ford answered questions at last week's hearing. "And right now, that's sort of where our focus needs to be", said Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, who has traded barbs with Trump and will retire at year's end. Republicans have said they are working under an agreement governing background checks dating from the Obama administration, under which investigations are confidential and closely held. Does the President think his comments will hurtSupreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh?

"I know yesterday [McConnell] said that was not going to be the case, but I have a feeling they're probably trying to figure out some way of disseminating this", Corker said. Asked about Trump's mockery in Mississippi, McSally said, "I'd prefer that we all have some grace here".

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Trump did not back away from his rally comments, instead attacking Kavanaugh's Democratic critics.

"An FBI supplemental background investigation that did not include an interview of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford- nor the witnesses who corroborate her testimony - can not be called an investigation", Ford's attorneys wrote.

"And a man's life is in tatters", Trump added.

"While we are limited in what we can say about this background investigation in a public setting, we are compelled to state for the record that there is information [in the tweet] that is not accurate", the Democrats wrote in their letter, without providing details.
