Opponents vow Sen. Collins will pay price for Kavanaugh vote

  • As the decision looms anti Kavanaugh demonstrators weigh on a Maine senator’s tiny staff

Following the final pronouncements by holdout lawmakers on Friday-namely Republican Susan Collins of ME and Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia-that made it clear the U.S. Senate is nearly assured to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court in a vote on Saturday, outrage erupted among those who had opposed his nomination and vows to mobilize were issued to make sure that those who voted against the public interest would be held accountable in the upcoming mid-terms or in 2020. And because it was created to directly influence her vote, the legality may be dicey.

"I thought that Susan was incredible yesterday".

Have we come to the point in our life as a nation where the governor of a great state-one who perhaps aspires to the nomination for president of the United States-can desert a good wife, mother of his grown children, divorce her, then persuade a young mother of four youngsters to abandon her husband and their four children and marry the governor?

Another woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct during his time at Yale, Deborah Ramirez, said in a statement Saturday that the senators discussing the impending vote brought her back to the moment of the alleged misconduct. Lisa Murkowski, an Alaska Republican who sits in the chamber next to Ms. Collins, joined the Democrats, saying Justice Kavanaugh wasn't the right person for the high court.

Rice's "Me" tweet was a response to another Obama-era official, Jen Psaki, tweeting: "who wants to run for Senate in Maine? there will be an army of supporters with you".

During her October 5 speech, Collins claimed that Kavanaugh "will work to lessen the divisions" in the U.S. But during his angry, bitter diatribe before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 27, Trump's nominee hardly sounded nonpartisan. And if she's willing, she should give testimony too.

Oil prices steady after Iranian exports fall further
Indian refiners imported around 10 million barrels of Iranian oil in October, and its November shipments are expected to be lower. The Islamic Republic exported 1.1 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude in that seven-day period, Refinitiv Eikon data showed.

All eyes were set on Senator Susan Collins on Friday ahead of her announcement on the Kavanaugh vote. A floor vote is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Collins said today that crowdsourced funding targeting her was tantamount to "a bribe, or extortion".

On a stop at CNN during her cable news tour, Collins was dismissive of Rice.

But Rice defended her connection to the state, saying at a New Yorker event that "My ties to ME are long and deep. She rejected winning at all costs and the politics of personal destruction". Rice is weighing whether to try to unseat Republican Sen. Kavanaugh is big on states' rights, and the Christian Right considers abortion not only a religious issue, but also, a states' rights issue.

In an appearance Sunday, Ms. Collins said she wasn't backing down.

"As I watch numerous Senators speak and vote on the floor of the Senate I feel like I'm right back at Yale where half the room is laughing and looking the other way. That's what I did in this case", she said. "I think it's the end of whatever legacy she has worked so hard to achieve as a moderate", Amy Halsted, co-director of Maine People's Alliance, which helped start the fundraiser, told Rolling Stone.
