More than 30 astronauts have flown to Hubble to deploy, upgrade and fix the observatory with the support of a human spaceflight and space shuttle staff. Thousands of astronomers from dozens of countries have used Hubble and analyzed its data to produce more than 15,000 peer reviewed papers to date.
Hubble has six gyroscopes, all of which were replaced by spacewalking astronauts during a servicing mission in May 2009.
Hubble is now down to two working gyros and needs at least three for optimal operations. That would permit one of the two gyros to be turned off, preserving its life until it's needed when the other fails.
While optimistic the problem can be resolved, he said Hubble can operate in near-normal fashion with just one gyroscope if worse comes to worse, although it would be more hard to track fast-moving targets.
The telescope is known to be nearing the end of its active life, with the James Webb Space Telescope - now scheduled for launch no earlier than 2021 - slated to be its successor.
Even with one gyro working, Hubble will still be able to take part in science, NASA confirmed. "If the outcome of this investigation results in recovery of the malfunctioning gyro, Hubble will resume science operations in its standard three-gyro configuration", the agency stated.
If it eventually comes to that, the plan would be to skip the two-gyro mode and go directly to single-gyro control to preserve the life of the remaining unit.
In a recent study , researchers reported a new discovery, 50 feet tall "ice spikes" covering parts of the moon's surface. Astronomers didn't know what this meant, only that it suggested something weird was going on in Europa's ice.
His efforts earned him Chelsea's Young Player of the Year Award as he looked set to have a bright future at Stamford Bridge. Not preferred by new boss Maurizio Sarri, the Danish defender did however downplay fears of a January exit.
The quake and subsequent tsunami have killed at least 2,000 people with thousands more possibly missing, according to Indonesia. There is an ongoing search for victims but the government said it will stop recovery operations on Thursday.
D'après Reuters, en raison de la complexité de l'affaire, l'appel pourrait mettre des années avant d'être jugé. En juillet dernier, Google a écopé d'une amende record de 4,34 milliards d'euros en Europe au sujet d'Android.
In this movie, I'll lead an ensemble of the most popular folklore figures and legends from different cultures around the world. Kasdan will direct and The Rock will star as the titular American folk hero. "The possibilities are limitless".

McConnell says Kavanaugh fight widens gender gap
And it comes as the president is on a high wave following a series of wins, including Kavanaugh's confirmation. I knew that a long time ago. "Even the reporter who broke the story said it wasn't me or my staff".
Pope Francis compares abortion to 'hiring a killer'
It also forbids euthanasia but says that a family or a patient can decide to stop using extraordinary means to keep people alive. Francis this year opposed a bill that would have legalised abortion in his home country of Argentina.
