Mohammed Dewji: Africa's youngest billionaire abducted by masked gunmen

The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone Commander, Mr Lazaro Mambosasa confirmed the reports, saying the famous businessman may have been kidnapped by people he described as White.

According to mwananchi.co.tz, the youthful tycoon was kidnapped at around 5am from Collessium Hotel as he worked out in a gym.

A taxi driver nearby said when Mr Dewji appeared, the auto parked inside flashed lights before the two white men alighted and seized him.

Dewji is the owner and president of the multi-billion dollar revenue Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Ltd (METL Group) and a former member of parliament for the ruling CCM party.

Dewji was born in Tanzania and studied at Georgetown University in Washington DC.

43-year old Dewji was elected to parliament on the CCM ticket but did not seek re-election to his seat in the 2015 election.

He is also the main shareholder in Tanzania's Simba FC football club.

Eye witnesses said that the kidnappers who had their faces covered, shot in the air before they grabbed the businessman and took off with him.

According to eyewitnesses, unknown men arrived in two vehicles and parked at the hotel before Mr Dewji got there.

They then pulled him into their auto and sped off while shooting in the air.
