  • Red Sox, Astros announce starting pitchers for ALCS Games 1 and 2

Up next for the Red Sox is the ALCS, where they'll face the defending-champion Astros starting Saturday night in Boston.

David Price's early exit in Game 2 of the American League Division Series did not push him further back in the Red Sox rotation for the next round.

However, on Tuesday night, Boston Red Sox reliever Craig Kimbrel came into the game to close out the series, and there apparently was a dark foreign substance smeared on his right hand that was caught on TV. In 1⅔ innings, Price threw 42 pitches (24 strikes), struck out no batters, and gave up three earned runs.

Manager Alex Cora opted to stick with Price, despite his poor outing against the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS.

"The way [Price] pitched against [the Astros] this year, he matches up real well against them", Cora said. "Like, [Justin] Verlander, nobody remembers that he wasn't good early in his career in the playoffs, and now he's kind of like the poster child of playoff baseball". One thing for sure, he's in the same spirits today.

Price's 6.04 ERA as a postseason starter is the third-highest in major league history for anyone with at least 10 starts.
