La fusée Soyouz, qui devait transporter l'astronaute américain Nick Hague et le Russe Alexeï Ovtchinine vers la Station spatiale internationale (ISS), a connu jeudi 11 octobre une défaillance de moteur après son décollage, a annoncé l'agence de presse Ria Novosti. "Au moment du décollage du vaisseau Soyouz MS-10, une situation inhabituelle est apparue". Les systèmes de secours ont été activés, le vaisseau a atterri au Kazakhstan. Ils ont été récupérés et ont été transportés à Djezkazgan, la ville kazakhe la plus proche du cosmodrome de Baïkonour et de leur lieu d'atterrissage. Durant cette mission, il avait mené une centaine d'expériences dont la moitié développée par l'Agence spatiale européenne ou le CNES et l'autre moitié par la NASA.

"Le contact a été établi", a indiqué une source citée par Ria Novosti, ajoutant que les deux hommes "n'ont pas été blessés" après la défaillance après le décollage d'un des moteurs de la fusée Soyouz qui devait les emporter sur la Station spatiale internationale (ISS). Le décollage s'est bien passé mais "après la séparation du premier étage, on a eu l'impression qu'il y avait une sorte de flash".

Les images retransmises en direct montrent les deux astronautes à l'intérieur de la cabine, puis elles s'interrompent comme à l'accoutumée, la caméra ne pouvant suivre la fusée de l'extérieur au-delà d'une certaine altitude.
