BBC newsreaders were forced to get a police escort to the recording studio after getting stuck in London traffic, jeopardising the broadcast of the 6pm news.

And Bruce told the Press Association: "I've never had to do that before in 19 years of presenting the news".

Mark Easton, BBC News home editor, thanked "policeman Josh" in a series of tweets after the frantic journey in the capital.

The issue affected OpenMedia, a new computer system rolled out across BBC News outlets over the past six months. Studio at BH gone down!
