Chinese spy chips didn't infiltrate Apple's technology, says CEO Tim Cook, and he wants Bloomberg to retract its story saying they did.
Bloomberg Businessweek in its October story alleged that data center hardware used by Apple and Amazon Web Services, provided by server company Super Micro, was under surveillance by the Chinese government.
According to anonymous sources who spoke with Bloomberg, Chinese spies affiliated with the Chinese People's Liberation Army were able to plant microchips onto Super Micro server motherboards meant to be used by the aforementioned companies.
Bloomberg reported in early October that Chinese spies had infiltrated United States companies, including Apple, by planting microchips on motherboards that ended up in their servers.
In addition to disputing the report itself, Cook also took issue with the lack of evidence he saidBloomberg supplied to document its claims.
Both companies have shot down Bloomberg's main findings. Each time, according to Coook, they found nothing to actually corroborate Bloomberg's reporting.

"There is no truth in their story about Apple", Cook told BuzzFeed News. However, Bloomberg told PCMag the publication stands by its reporting.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg Businessweek published an investigation that alleged Chinese spies had compromised some 30 USA -based companies, including Apple and Amazon, by implanting chips into their servers when they were being manufactured in China. "Bloomberg Businessweek's investigation is the result of more than a year of reporting, during which we conducted more than 100 interviews".
"Seventeen individual sources, including government officials and insiders at the companies, confirmed the manipulation of hardware and other elements of the attacks", says Bloomberg. We also published three companies' full statements, as well as a statement from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A number of companies, government agencies, independent security analysts, and government officials have released detailed rebuttals or made explicit statements rejecting most of the article's account about the discovery of malicious hardware.
Congress received a letter from Apple earlier this month dispelling rumors of the controversy.
Bloomberg Businessweek issued a story earlier this month alleging about 30 US companies were compromised after their servers were implanted malicious chips during their manufacture in China, which created "a stealth backdoor" into their network running on the servers.
