Reports claimed a coach belonging to Bolt Cutter bus company travelling from Mutare to Harare collided with a Smart Express Bus Services coach heading in the opposite direction just outside Rusape.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, told NewsDay that the accident involved Smart Express and Bolt Cutter buses and occurred at the 156km peg. Of the 47, 45 are adults while two are children.
Gruesome pictures of the accident site went viral on social media with panicky citizens struggling to ascertain whether they had relatives on the two buses.
