Theresa May is facing mounting pressure from Cabinet ministers, Eurosceptic Tory MPs, the DUP and Labour to publish legal advice on her Brexit deal amid fears it will leave the United Kingdom permanently tied to the European Union.

The concerns focus on Attorney General Geoffrey Cox's advice on how an exit from the backstop could be found to make sure the United Kingdom is not permanently kept within a customs union, which would severely curtail its ability to strike global free trade deals - a key prize for Brexiteers.

Mr Hancock said a decision to release legal advice would only be taken in "exceptional circumstances" by the Prime Minister.

There are also demands within the Cabinet for Mrs May to produce the legal advice behind her "backstop" plan to avoid a hard border in Ireland.

A Downing Street source said: 'That is just where we are so far.

Police arrest woman who spent £16m in Harrods
She will appeal the decision to refuse her bail at London's High Court on Thursday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said. She faces two charges of embezzlement and has been been held in custody since giving herself up voluntarily last Tuesday.

Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg, who chairs the Eurosceptic European Research Group, suggested the information should "certainly be made available" to Cabinet ministers to ensure they know what they are signing up to.

However, the version of the agreement shared with ministers did not contain any text relating to the issue of the Irish backstop which remains a sticking-point between Britain and the EU.

The concerns focus on Mr Cox's advice on how an exit from the backstop could be found to make sure the United Kingdom is not permanently kept within a customs union which would severely curtail its ability to strike free trade deals with nations around the world - a key prize for Brexiteers.

Sir Keir, who visited Brussels for talks with senior European Union figures, said: "At this crucial stage, Parliament should not be kept in the dark nor should the Government try to bounce MPs into an agreement without all the facts".

The PM assured her top team that there would be another Cabinet before any agreement is settled.
