Johnson says bans against Australian trio should stay

Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft could yet see an early end to the bans they're now serving for their involvement in the ball-tampering incident in the Newlands Test in March this year.

Smith, captain at the time, and Warner, his vice-captain, are eight months into one-year bans, while Bancroft, who carried out the cheating in South Africa, will be eligible to return in December.

Several experts believe this could be India's best chance to rewrite history in Australia given Smith and Warner will play no role in the high-profile series of T20Is, Tests and one-day internationals.

According to its news website, the CA board will discuss the situation in a phone call early this week.

Meanwhile, former pacer Mitchell Johnson on Sunday said the ball-tampering ban on the Australian trio of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft should not be reduced as the players have not challenged the board's sentence.

The Cricket Australia board is reportedly considering retaining their global bans but allowing the players to play in the JLT Sheffield Shield. So does that mean Cameron Bancroft's ban will be reduced to the same amount as Smith & Warner if it goes ahead? The speedster noted that they accepted their bans and it should stay.

"If they would have brought Smith, Warner, and Bancroft back into the team against India, then they would say, 'Here we go again".
