  • Court records show that tennis star Venus Williams has settled a wrongful death lawsuit related to a fatal car crash in Florida

Tennis star Venus Williams has settled a wrongful death lawsuit related to a fatal auto crash in Florida a year ago.

Mr Barson, 78, suffered "massive" fatal injuries from the collision in Palm Beach Gardens city on 9 June 2017.

"Based on this investigation and relevant Florida statutes, no charges will be filed", a statement from Palm Beach Gardens Police read last December.

The tennis star had previously been cleared over the death of 78-year-old Jerome Barson, who died after the vehicle he was travelling in - driven by wife Linda - slammed into the passenger side of Williams' SUV on 9 June last year.

While the documents indicated that a settlement had been reached, the terms of the agreement, including any monetary sum, were not disclosed.

The film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala & Pragya Kapoor and co-produced by Abhishek Kapoor & Abhishek Nayyar. The parents - Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan seem to be unfazed, taking this in their stride.

Lead investigator David Downling said that CCTV video showed Williams had legally enter the intersection from a road leading out of her gated neighbourhood. Williams then tried to get fully across, but the Barsons' light turned green and their auto slammed into Williams' SUV.

When the sedan cleared her path, Williams began moving forward in her 2010 Toyota Sequoia, but that put her in the path of the Barsons, who now had the green light. His wife, Linda, was driving the vehicle, and suffered broken bones and other injuries in the crash.

The Barsons' 2016 Hyundai Accent hit Williams' SUV at 40 miles per hour.

Dowling said in his report that state law required Williams to exit the intersection and that even though Linda Barson had the green light she was obligated to make sure the intersection was clear. When Williams resumed driving, she was directly in the path of Barson, who also had right of way.

Attorneys for Williams and the Barsons didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.
