Alcohol-specific deaths among women reach record high

In contrast, the female alcohol-specific death rate in 2017 for Scotland, at 11.6 deaths per 100,000, was the lowest since 2013, and a statistically significant decrease of 20 percent since 2001.
Scotland, famed as the home of Scotch whisky, remains as the part of Britain with the highest rate of alcohol specific deaths, the report revealed.
Overall, people dying in the United Kingdom from alcohol-related diseases is now at 12.2 deaths per 100,000 people - a level not seen since 2008, their highest ever point.
There has been a 40% increase in the number of people who have died alcohol-specific deaths in Northern Ireland since records began in 2001.
The figures also showed that death rates among men continue to be double the figure recorded for women, at a rate of 16.8 per 100,000 males.
This dramatic increase comes amid several law changes created to cut down on alcohol consumption.
The report said: "Given that the definition of alcohol-specific deaths includes mostly chronic conditions, such as alcoholic liver disease, the increased rates in the older age groups may be a outcome of misuse of alcohol that began years, or even decades, earlier".

The study, published in the journal Human Reproduction , examined chemical levels including phthalates, parabens and phenols. And with every doubling of mothers' urine concentrations of triclosan, girls started menstruating one month earlier.

The number of women dying from alcohol misuse in Britain has reached a record high.
Karen Tyrell, from charity Addaction, said people should remember how excessive alcohol use is often a coping mechanism.
In 2017, Scottish males were twice as likely to die from alcohol-related causes than those in England. When people make a decision to address an alcohol problem, it's a route in to look at other issues too.
