Now, Ennis is claiming what she said on the witness stand were lies to protect Foster.

Ennis said at the time she couldn't believe what transpired during the confrontation, especially since they were "off" at the time and she'd traveled to Florida in an attempt to improve the relationship. Ennis said she was stunned that another team would add Foster to its roster.

The 49ers released Foster after the incident in Tampa and the Redskins claimed him on waivers.

Foster was arrested in Florida in November, hours before his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, were set to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Washington Redskins were the only team to place a claim on the linebacker. Foster, 24, is not allowed to practice, play or take part in any league activities while the police investigation continues but is still collecting a salary of $50,000-a-week.

During the alleged altercation, Ennis said she asked Foster how he would feel if someone were treating his mother or sister in a physical manner.

"When he got signed, I was like, I can't believe somebody picked him up", Ennis told GMA.

"Even when I called the police, the 49ers came up there", Ennis said, via ABC.com.

"Like, everything I thought was love is really not love", she said.

The 49ers were playing the next day so she went to the hotel where they were staying.

And when she told him that she would tell his new girlfriend that he paid to fly Ennis there, she says he "slapped me and pushed me". She revealed the injury photos during the interview with 'GMA'. Twice she called police, and another time - in October - the neighbors called, she said.

"Reuben threw my clothes off the balcony, he threw my stuff out the house, he dragged me down the stairs two, three times, he punched me in my face two, three times, he pulled me by my hair, kicked me, spit on me", she said.

Ennis said that she's now realized, after receiving professional help, that her relationship with Foster was not love and that she's working on getting closure. "I thought that he would change".

"I was not telling the truth". "And love will have you doing things that are not in your best interest".

The Washington Redskins claimed the rights to Foster two days after he was released by the 49ers, a move that felt like another "slap in the face", Ennis said.

They got involved when deputies arrived and told them that she was the same woman who had "lied" about him abusing her in February. The team dropped him afterwards. Niners general manager John Lynch said at the time that Foster was "not living up to what we had communicated and to the energy and the time that we've invested in him".

San Francisco didn't release Foster at the time because they were made aware of Ennis' decision. However, she later recanted her story.

'We care a lot about Reuben and I can tell you that it was a situation where we laid down some very specific ground rules for Reuben, as we do for all of the players. He was charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence.
