Nauert to Become Next UN Ambassador

President Trump on Friday announced that he is nominating Heather Nauert to be the United States ambassador to the United Nations.

Democratic senators likely will resist her nomination, but lack the votes to block it. Nauert won't be going to NY to shape America's foreign policy.

Others, including former US ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, criticized the choice.

Under Pompeo, whose foreign policy views more closely align with Trump's than Tillerson's, Nauert became part of the inner circle.

Because of her inexperience in diplomacy and short political resume, Nauert may face difficulty securing the job.

Haley, in what could be a final diplomatic push, on Thursday failed in a bid for the UN General Assembly to condemn the Palestinian Hamas movement for firing rockets at Israel.

Ms Haley has served almost two years in the post. "It is less clear that she has the experience to hammer out hard deals with China and Russian Federation over problems like Iran and North Korea". However, she quickly learned key issues and how the United Nations operates. But without being a member of the Cabinet, she wouldn't have the same independence that Haley has enjoyed. Shortly after Trump made the pick official, The Washington Post flagged an exchange from earlier this year in which Nauert cited the D-Day invasion as an example of the "strong relationship" between the United States and Germany. It has cut off contributions for the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees and United Nations population fund. I ask: "today, does it continue to serve its mission faithfully?"

In 2016, she travelled to battleground states to report on the presidential primaries and election. She spent her entire career before going to State at ABC News and Fox.

She has a degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
