  • Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder look ready to do it again

The World Boxing Council gave the go-ahead Friday for a "direct rematch" between their heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, who battled to a draw in Los Angeles last Saturday.

In the immediate aftermath of the drawn fight, both fighters confirmed that they would be interested in a rematch, with Wilder reportedly wanting the fight to take place in London and Fury preferring Manchester.

When asked about the performance, Usyk - who has stated his interest in moving up to heavyweight next year - appeared to be relatively unimpressed by both men's performances but praise Fury for getting up after the 12th round knockdown.

Fury was downed by the mercurial but explosive Wilder late in the fight, before a miraculous rise during the referee's 10 count.

"The WBC is happy to confirm a direct rematch has been approved and will create in a ruling which will also consider the mandatory status of the division".

"I'm willing and ready to give Fury the opportunity ASAP", Wilder said. Hopefully we can have it here in the summer, ' he said while watching United's draw with Arsenal on Wednesday.

Many observers felt Fury had done more than enough to claim the decision, despite being floored twice in the ninth and 12th rounds. "But I'm not going to go on about it forever".

He added: "Right now, I don't know, I am relaxed at home with my family, no boxing and here for the fight with Vasyl".

Promoter Frank Warren and the British Boxing Board of Control [BBBofC] had planned to issue a formal complaint about the scorecards after Mexican judge Alejandro Rochin scored the heavyweight fight 115-111 for Wilder.

Fury said he had "never seen a worse decision in his life" and described it as a "gift" for his opponent. All the media will report bad stuff. He needs banning from boxing forever. "He must be thanking his lucky stars he still has the green and gold belt as that belt belongs to me".
