  • Former Bush attorney general could return to the role

President Donald Trump announced his nominations for US ambassador to the United Nations and attorney general on Friday. According to news reports, Barr has wrote: "It was widely recognized that Comey's job was in jeopardy regardless of who won the election".

Barr, who joined the Time Warner board in 2009, voted for the merger with AT&T and was a strong advocate for it.

Barr served as attorney general in the administration of George H.W. Bush. He now works at Kirkland & Ellis as a lawyer. That will come in handy because, once Barr is confirmed, Mueller will again be reporting to him. Trump had repeatedly criticized Sessions for recusing himself from the Russian Federation investigation, blaming that move for the eventual appointment of an independent counsel with a wide mandate to probe Trump's campaign and actions as president.

He told The New York Times in November 2017, in a story about Sessions directing his prosecutors to look into actions related Clinton, that "there is nothing inherently wrong about a president calling for an investigation" - though Barr also said one should not be launched just because a president wants it.

David Stacy, HRC's director of government affairs, said that Barr was "ill suited" to head the department. The confirmation process could take months, given that a new Congress will form in 2019.

"If confirmed, there's little doubt that William Barr would continue the Trump administration's objective of erasing LGBTQ Americans from the fabric of this nation". Earlier this year, Nauert cited the D-Day invasion as an example of the tight relationship between the United States and Germany, seemingly unaware that the nations were on opposing sides of World War II.

Trump has been known to regularly watch "Fox & Friends", occasionally calling in to the show. "I would have liked to see him have more balance on this group", he said.

Plucked from Fox by the White House to serve as State Department spokeswoman, Nauert catapulted into the upper echelons of the agency's hierarchy when Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was sacked in March and replaced with Mike Pompeo.

Ms. Nauert's profile became more visible after Mr. Tillerson was sacked in March. Haley insisted that she be made a member of Trump's Cabinet and his National Security Council to bolster her power within the administration.

Those views, along with Barr's critical statements about the Mueller investigation, are drawing scrutiny from congressional Democrats who worry about the independence of the probe under a new Trump-appointed attorney general. "Traditionally. we've either had people with a lot of experience in global affairs and /or a lot of experience as academics", he said. A number of lawsuits have also been filed challenging Whitaker's legitimacy, many of them arguing that his appointment is unconstitutional because he never received Senate confirmation and other Senate-confirmed officers were available to fill the interim role.
