LadBaby took the coveted number one spot from Grande's thank u, next and Ava Max's Sweet But Psycho, which had been tipped to win after an early lead.

The dad vlogger - real name Mark Hoyle - offered an olive branch in the form of a foot-long sausage roll to the Thank U, Next singer.

The "dad blogger" - real name Mark Hyde - fought off competition from global pop stars Ariana Grande, Ava Max and Miley Cyrus for his charity single, all the profits of which will go to foodbank charity The Trussell Trust. Thank you so much.

LadBaby's We Built This City shifted 75,000 combined sales this week to take the top spot, and despite a fiercely close race all week, finishes 18,500 ahead of his closest competition after a last-minute push.

He said he hoped Starship would enjoy his version of their song, which originally reached number 12 in the United Kingdom in 1985.

In a message to those who bought the single, Hoyle told "Thank you everybody in the United Kingdom who has got [the song] to the top". Sausage rolls! Recording Starship's 1985 track this time as an ode to the festive favourite, proceeds from the single are going to food bank charity The Trussell Trust.

Before the victor was announced, Hoyle appeared on Sky News's Sunrise show, saying he hoped the song had made people smile.

Elsewhere, Mariah Carey " s festive hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You" took fourth place - as it did a year ago.

Another famous Christmas hit and charity song Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?' slipped nicely into the top 20 at number 13 and Ariana Grande didn't have to worry about not making the top spot as 'Imagine" made it in at number eight.

YouTuber LadBaby has said he is "speechless and lost for words" after claiming the Christmas number one for 2018 in a shock victory.

Thank You, Next - last weekend's number one - was forced into third place.
