Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner

  • For Pacquiao, goal is clear — knock out Adrien Broner

The guest of honor, Pacquiao will be joined by another prominent Filipino - Apl De Ap of the Black-Eyed Peas who will perform the halftime show.

The first major boxing event of 2019 kicks off on Jan. 19 when Manny Pacquiao, fresh off his seventh-round knockout over Lucas Matthysse in April, returns to the ring on January 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to defend his WBA "regular" welterweight title against Adrien Broner.

"Giving back is so important because I've been there", Pacquiao explained.

It might be a tall order for the fighting senator, since the 29-year-old Broner has never lost by knockout. "I have to maximize the opportunity", he adds. "I forgot how much fun winning a fight by knockout was until I stopped Lucas Matthysse last summer to win the WBA (World Boxing Association) (secondary) welterweight title".

"It felt great to win that way and the fans loved it too, so why not go for it again", said boxing's only eight-division champion.

Although Marcos Maidana dropped Broner twice in 2013, the American boxer was able to survive and settle for a unanimous decision loss.

Pacquiao wants to fortify that reputation by going after Broner's head.

Ce revers n'a que très peu plu à Jacques-Henri Eyraud, le président de l'OM, qui a placé ses joueurs devant leurs responsabilités. Le président marseillais a haussé le ton après l'élimination vécue en Coupe de France.

Donnie Nietes wants to face other world champions and big names in his division but emphasized that he is not avoiding a rematch with countryman Aston Palicte.

According to Pacquiao, he harbors no ill feelings toward Broner and if he succeeds in notching the 40th knockout of his career, it would be strictly business. I like Broner as a fighter. I have a chance to help the people and I have a chance to make them happy.

"He runs like a deer", Justin Fortune, Pacquiao's strength and conditioning coach, said.

Trainer Buboy Fernandez also said, "I am very pleased with the training camp Manny has had". He has the strongest foundation of any fighter with whom I've worked. When he hits the mitts it sounds like an explosion.

"I feel a hundred per cent that is why he did this", Roach told BoxingScene.com.

"I think both guys have that in their minds".
