NYC launches $100M universal health insurance program

"While the federal government works to gut health care for millions of Americans, New York City is leading the way by guaranteeing that every New Yorker has access to quality care, regardless of immigration status or their ability to pay".

The plan also rests on recent efforts to strengthen the shaky finances of the NYC Health + Hospitals system, which nevertheless "still faces substantial financial challenges", according to a forecast last month by the New York City Independent Budget Office.

Not only will NY be a sanctuary city, Mayor de Blasio will now seek $100 million in new spending to provide full comprehensive healthcare for all, including its undocumented immigrants.

New York City does not plan to raise taxes on residents to fund the new initiative, as de Blasio says the program and its costs will be phased in over the span of several years, USA Today reported.

'Green Book' director: 'I was an idiot' for genital-flashing
Farrelly has previously been known for making comedy films such as There's Something About Mary , Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin. The acclaimed director issued a statement through his publicists saying the stories' descriptions are true.

"We also have a way to provide direct health care to a lot of neighbors who happen to be undocumented - they're still part of our community, they need health care, their families need health care", de Blasio added. "In this city we're going to make that a reality", De Blasio said during a press conference on Tuesday.

The Times reports on Mayor de Blasio's plan to "guarantee health care for all New Yorkers", legal and otherwise.

HHC director Mitchell Katz practically admitted that the mayor's announcement of guaranteed health care for all is just fanfare, amounting to more "enabling services" for already-existing programs.

"Mayor Bill de Blasio is announcing Tuesday that the city is rolling out a program to provide health care to all New York City residents, including undocumented immigrants", writes ABC News. It will seek to boost enrollment among those who qualify, but are uninsured. The answer: Mayor de Blasio is not really proposing anything new; nor is he planning to expand services or care to anyone now ineligible. Services will be priced on a sliding scale and will be free for the poor. No one should go without the health care they need. The Golden State became the first to cover undocumented children up to age 19 in 2016. The city said last week that an ambitious goal of providing MetroCards to about 800,000 residents whose incomes are below the federal poverty line would start this month with cards for only about 30,000 people, or about four percent of the total. The ultimate solution is single-payer health insurance for this whole country or Medicare for all. Finding them homes, health care, food etc. help them first. "It's the most expensive way to get health care". "Under the Trump administration, all that progress is at risk", Inslee said in a statement. "We will use our market power and our moral power to demand fairer prices for prescription drugs". On Monday, new California Gov. Gavin Newsom committed to a similar proposal to cover immigrants in his state. The panel concluded, in the words of a Newsday editorial, that "for patients, emphasis would be on primary care instead of hurried emergency-room sessions and days of hospitalization". It is expected to cost at least $100 million annually. "To be the fairest big city in America, New Yorkers can't be forced to choose between bringing home a paycheck and taking time off to just disconnect or spend time with loved ones - that choice ends with Paid Personal Time".
