Tim Cook wants Apple's greatest contribution to mankind to be in healthcare

  • Apple plans to launch new health services in 2019

While Cook's remarks may seem like standard hyperbolic CEO-speak, the Apple Watch's new ECG app is already saving lives. Its announcement that it now sees sales of $84 billion, well below the range of $89 billion to $94 billion that it forecast in November, sent company shares down almost 10 percent. But they're things that we feel really great about, that we've been working on for multiple years.

"In this last quarter, if you take everything outside of iPhone, it grew at 19 percent, 19 percent on a huge business", Cook said on "Mad Money".

Apple collected $100 billion in revenue from products and services that don't directly come from the iPhone, Cook said. The world relies on a "strong USA and China for the world economy to be strong".

This puts Apple's decision to stop disclosing the number of iPhone it sells for each quarter in a completely new light, given that a 10% cut in production for the new iPhone models would translate into a whopping 20% YoY contraction from "the 52.21 million units Apple sold in January-March 2018", as reported by Nikkei Asian Review. The market is "quite emotional" when viewing Apple through a small time period and the company "sort of look [s] through all of that". "The ecosystem has never been stronger".

The apps were blatant adware, and you didn't need to be a security researcher to realize they were malicious. The app had already received multiple complaints about its behavior in the Google Play Store review section.

Despite the writing being on the wall for the iPhone, Cook believed that he could make up the short fall by jacking up prices, cutting margins and trying to tack on added services. Fiscal 2018 was the year in which Apple surpassed $1 trillion in valuation, becoming the first public company in history to hit that benchmark. -China trade war will be seen soon.

Cook is optimistic a resolution to the U.S.

The interview helped lift Apple shares by 2.2 per cent to US$151.19 in afternoon trading.

Cook also spoke about Qualcomm, the chip maker it is now locked in a legal battle with over unfair patent licensing practices.
