  • Billionaire Democrat Tom Steyer will not run for president in 2020

Billionaire investor and Democratic activist Tom Steyer will not run for president in 2020.

Steyer announced he would not pursue a presidential bid at an event in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday afternoon.

"The impeachment question has reached an inflection point", Steyer wrote on Twitter. "That's why I just announced that I will be dedicating 100% of my time and effort in 2019 towards Mr. Trump's impeachment and removal from office".

Steyer plans to spend $40 million (31.3 million pounds) this year to pressure the U.S. House of Representatives, which Democrats won control of in the November 2018 elections, to begin impeachment proceedings, and to encourage Democrats vying for the White House to support Trump's impeachment.

Steyer said he spent $120 million on the 2018 midterm elections, investing heavily in youth turnout, which he called an untapped source of Democratic support.

Hardik is presently in Australia along with the Indian cricket team where they have won a historic Test series against Australia. The BCCI had on Tuesday taken note of his "crass and cringeworthy comments" on the chat show and had ticked him off.

Numerous indicators have shown that over the previous year, many Democrats consider the impeachment issue more politically hard than Steyer has made it sound.

"Most people come to Iowa around this time to announce a campaign for president", Steyer added, "But I am proud to be here to announce that I will do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to remove a President". Steyer says the president has already committed at least 10 impeachable offenses since he took office.

He may face another self-funded billionaire candidate in Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of NY, who has more of a national profile. He had made deliberate preparations in recent months to seek the White House, running television ads in the early primary states, recruiting potential staff members and even designating a campaign manager for a possible run.

Steyer told CNN last week that he would only run if he believed he offered something new to the field of candidates.

"I think we need someone who has a positive vision of the future so Americans can get up in the morning with a smile on their face again", Steyer said at his town hall in Charleston, South Carolina, in December. "Unless I believe that my background and my beliefs and my priorities are different from the other people who are running, there's really no point in being on of a very large group of contestants".
