  • The Accidental Prime Minister’ Supreme Court refuses urgent hearing to plea against film’s release

He also claimed that the film projects the country and a host of its political leaders, ranging from Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy Lal Krishna Advani, in a very poor light.

Initially, the matter was listed for hearing before a bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Sanjeev Narula in the cause list uploaded on Tuesday, however, it was changed this morning and was heard by the bench headed by the Chief Justice.

After facing several ups and downs and its own share of controversies, The Accidental Prime Minister starring Bollywood actor Anupam Kher as former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna as PM's media consultant Sanjaya Baru has finally hit the theatrical screens this Friday, i.e January 11, 2019.

According to the petition, due to the release of the trailer, the "post of prime minister is getting defamed on day to day basis in public domain before the public at large". The film is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru. Recently, when we spoke to the director of the film, Vijay Gutte, he was all praises for Anupam Kher and his performance in the film as he informed Pinkvilla, "In that age bracket, we have only a few actors and Anupam sir as an actor, he is incredible".
