Indian nurse 'pulls baby's head off during birth'

After he botched up the delivery so horribly, the nurse at Ramgarh health centre on Jaisalmer deposited the baby's body in the mortuary without informing anyone that its head was left inside the woman's body.

"Doctors at the government hospital in Jodhpur found that the body of the baby was split into two and only the head remained, while the other half was already taken out".

Health department officials said a probe is on.

The man in charge of the heath centre in Ramgargh, Dr Nikhil Sharma, said he wasn't present at the time of the incident.

During the time of the delivery, the nurse pulled the foetus so carelessly that it resulted in splitting the body of the baby into two parts.

Health minister Raghu Sharma said, "Those guilty will be punished and strict action will be taken after investigation".

The nurse, instead of treating the woman, hid the dismembered part of the baby and sent her off to another hospital, the woman said in a complaint to the police. A mother of three kids, this was Deeksha's fourth delivery.

A nurse pulled out the newborn with vast force during the delivery, the parents alleged. The incident took place at a hospital in Jaisalmer's Ramgarh.

The doctors then informed the victim's family members about the whole incident.

A case has been opened against two male nurses but police are yet to arrest them. Chief medical health officer, Jaisalmer, Dr B L Bunkar said, "I visited Ramgarh and investigated the matter". Since the gynaecologist was on leave, the nursing staff handled the case.
